TITLE: Manager – HR Labor Relations

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manager, HR Labor Relations will work closely with local Management and implement proactive labor relations programs that facilitates constructive dialogue, relations and maintains positive relations amongst teams in the region. He/she will advise leadership on labor relations issues, provide vulnerability audits, conduct labor relations training and work with HR staff to maintain an environment of positive employee relations. The individual will conduct research, prepare documentation and communicate the Company’s response to charges related to the National Labor Relations Act and take proactive measures to avoid potential charges in the future.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, providing guidance to management on labor related issues and participates in conferences with any recognized labor organizations.

Investigate and resolve grievances between grieving workers and the company.

Advise management in the development, application, and interpretation of labor relations policies and practices.

Prepare reports, using records of actions taken concerning grievances, discipline, arbitration and related labor relations activities, to identify problem areas.

Provide information, recommendations and support regarding proposed legislation and/or regulations relating to labor, employment and Human Resources matters.

Partner with HR and business leaders to develop proactive and positive employee and labor relations strategies and initiatives that drive business objectives.

Performs other duties designed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience partnering with management in a labor sensitive environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of general Human Resources policies, programs, methods, practices and procedures related to Employee Relations, and EEO/AAP Administration.
  • Understanding of labor agreements, grievance procedures and arbitration processes
  • Exposure to contract negotiations
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local laws and regulations related to the Human Resources function (FLSA, ADA, Civil Rights Act of 1964, and FMLA).
  • Highly developed consultative, influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proven experience working proactively and independently with minimal direction.
  • Must have high integrity, ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive information in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with employees and all levels of management.
  • Ability to work well in a fast paced environment and work well under pressure.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • 6 - 10 years experience in progressively responsible Labor Relations or HR Generalist roles, with a minimum of 5+years working in a Union environment with hands-on labor relations experience
  • Proven experience working with charges related to the National Labor Relations Act, collective bargaining agreements and grievance processes.
  • Strong presentation and training skills
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills
