Job Description 


Setting:  Hospital

Contract:  Start  Dec 14th for 13 weeks

Hours:  Standard Mon-Fri work schedule

Provides complex support and assistance to the Center Director in the organization and management of TRMC’s Tumor Registry.  Responsibilities include the information management of cancer data in a manner consistent with all requirements of the health care delivery system, to include accrediting organizations (American College of Surgeons, JCAHO, etc.).  Handles the day-to-day operation of the registry office.  Responsible for quality assurance and performance improvement activities related to registry activities.  Serves as clerical support person for twice monthly Cancer Conferences.


Essential Functions:

1.      Performs daily abstracting from the medical record, including all data elements as required by the ACoS, with six (6) months of diagnosis.

 

2.      Accurately codes and stages cases according to ICD-0 and AcoS staging manuals.

 

3.      Prepares statistical reports and other data summaries for the ACoS-required annual report, insuring that the report is received by the College no later than November 1st of each year.

 

4.      Ensures follow-up rate of al least 90% for all patients in the registry database.

 

5.      Establishes/monitors case finding mechanisms to insure accurate patient database.

 

6.      Collects and submits data to the S. C. Central Cancer Registry, the NCDB and the ACoS, as required.

 

7.      Provides clerical support for the Cancer Committee at twice monthly Tumor Conferences.

Job Requirements 


I.                    Minimum Qualifications:

 

College graduate preferred, but must have high school diploma or equivalent.  One year minimum experience performing abstracting of cases and follow up of patients required.  National Tumor Registry Association Certification is required.  Computer experience is necessary for data collection.
