JOB SUMMARY
In the Prevea environment provides care to patients acting as an assistant to the physician within their scope of practice following established standards and practices.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (this list may not include all of the duties assigned)

Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients. Reviews patient records.

Records appropriate pre-operative data for hospital patients.

Provides assistance to surgeon during operative procedures as scheduled. Experience in robotic surgery is a plus.

Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.

Performs a complete physical exam and records finding. Establishes presumptive diagnosis.

Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.

Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.

Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education.

Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
-
Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
-
Sutures wounds.
-
Prepares written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances as directed by supervising physician.

Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation.
-
Performs evaluations and treatment procedures in clinical situations according to accepted protocols.

Other appropriate clinical duties as assigned by supervisory physician in accordance with experience.

Participates with physician in review of patient’s health records.

Promotes ongoing quality improvement activities.

Documents in Electronic medical record.

Preferred participation as a first assist in surgical cases as assigned by the providers.

Manage wound care patients as delegated by providers.
-
All others duties as assigned by providers, physicians and SLD.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Demonstrate organizational skills that allow timely patient appointments and appropriate required follow up.

Presents a courteous and service oriented image through positive and helpful interaction with patients and families, physicians and co-workers.

Participates in NP/PA activities throughout PREVEA and community.

Participates in community activities.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
-
Graduation from an accredited physician assistant program.
-
Licensed by the State of Wisconsin.
-
Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposure to communicable disease and bodily fluids. Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
