Job Description

STG International is currently seeking a full-time Family Practice/Medicine Physician to provide services at Martin Army Community Hospital (MACH) in Fort Benning, GA.

The schedule is typically Monday – Friday from 8am – 4:30pm. No nights, weekends, or call.


Job Responsibilities will include:


The Family Medicine physicians performing services under this contract shall have sufficient general experience to adequately perform the following medical procedures appropriate to their specialty to include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Incision and Drainage
  • Nail Trephination
  • Sling or swath injuries
  • Bandage
  • Reduce dislocation and fractures when appropriate
  • Stabilize and evaluate cervical spine injuries as appropriate
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Pericardiocentesis (emergent)
  • Removal of foreign bodies as appropriate
  • Perform venous punctures for lab studies and interpret results
  • Draw arterial blood gases for evaluation and interpret results
  • Suture simple lacerations
  • Remove sutures
  • Tube thoracostomy
  • Secure and maintain an adequate airway, by such means as:
  • Oral tracheal airways; oral tracheal intubation; nasal/tracheal intubation
  • Crico-thyrotomy (needle and surgical)
  • Splint and stabilize traumatic injuries to extremities
  • Administer intravenous, intramuscular, and subcutaneous medications as appropriate
  • Secure and maintain adequate intravenous access by peripheral and central routes
  • Diagnostic Peritoneal Lavage (DPL)
  • Bladder catheritization
  • NG/OG tubes
  • Local anesthesia
  • Restraints
  • Routine Antenatal Care

 

The contract physicians performing services under this agreement shall have sufficient experience to perform tasks to include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Consult with consultants appropriately
  • Provide medical advice over the telephone
  • Complete all required paperwork or computer generated documentation of clinical appointments
  • Perform administrative functions to include performing military physical examinations and medical evaluation boards
  • Obtain an adequate history, physical, assessment and plan in timely and appropriate manner on each patient and develop treatment plan
  • Utilize paraprofessional as appropriate
  • Respond to cardiopulmonary arrest as appropriate
  • Interpret electrocardiograms
  • Preliminarily interpret radiographs to include CAT scans
  • Handling problems encountered in the first trimester of pregnancy such as first trimester bleeding, hyperemesis gravidarum, etc.

 

The contract physicians shall be capable of performing consultation service within the Department of Family Medicine dealing with diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of TRICARE beneficiaries.

The contract physicians shall perform medical examinations and treatment of all illnesses that pertain to the sub-specialty of Family Practice.  The quality of medical practice shall meet or exceed the standards of professional practice for the health care provided as determined by the same authority (AR 40-1) that governs military medical professionals in the same discipline and as specified below.


The contract physicians shall appropriately diagnose and treat all patients based on signs and symptoms.

The contract physicians shall provide medical care for/to all authorized personnel as defined in AR 40-3.  The Government will determine patient eligibility for care.  The physician shall refer all questions concerning patient eligibility for care to the Patient Administration Division (PAD).

The contract physicians shall use available Department of Defense and MACH resources; that is, specialty consultations, ancillary services, and supplies for the optimal care of patients under this agreement.

The contract physicians shall prepare and maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with hospital directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required by the contract.  Ensure all documentation and reports are legible.


The contract physicians shall perform medical procedures compatible with the medical facility’s operating capacity and equipment.  The contract employee shall not introduce new procedures or services without the prior coordination and approval of the OIC Family Medicine Clinic, the MACH Commander, and the Contracting Officer.  The contract employee shall not use medical care rendered pursuant to this agreement as part of a study, research grant, or publication without the written consent of the MACH Commander and the Contracting Officer.

The contract physicians shall adhere to the Center for Disease Control guidelines concerning standard precautions and the MACH Infection Control program at all times while providing services under this contract.


The contract physicians shall perform all duties in such a manner that they meet all current JCAHO standards.



OUTPATIENT CARE:
  The contract physicians shall provide a full range of outpatient Family Practice services within the scope of privileging by MACH.

 

Patient records shall include sufficient documentation to provide data for use in health maintenance, treatment, rehabilitation, establishment of health standards, epidemiological studies, and in helping the Government and the contract physicians with program evaluation and improvement.


The contract physicians shall use the Composite Health Care System/AHLTA for keeping records, ordering of ancillary procedures, ordering of medications, writing doctor’s orders, referrals, and performing other required patient record functions.

The contract physicians shall verify the content and correctness of all prepared and transcribed reports by affixing his/her own signature and stamp to all copies of the document and validating its contents.

Job Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have minimum 2 years of experience in family practice medicine.
  • Experience with TRICARE is desired but not required.
  • Board of Medical Specialties or by the American Osteopathic Association.
  • Shall be a board certified Family Practice Physician and hold a current license to practice medicine in the United States.
  • Sufficient general experience in accurately performing medical procedures as outlined in the job description above.
  • Must have basic computer skills to include proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word. 
  • A competent typist (as there is a requirement to complete documentation in the MTF’s electronic health record system).
  • Shall have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
