Summary of Position
This position is responsible for following prescribed formulas and procedures in preparing intermediate slurries and master batches of solutions that will be applied on the production line. The incumbent is responsible for operating the existing production and testing equipment as well completing the required information associated with each batch while reporting any major concerns or issues to the Washcoat Supervisor or Washcoat Engineer (WCE).
Nature and Scope
The Washcoat Technician reports to the Washcoat Engineer (WCE) and is responsible for the preparation of washcoat slurries as directed by the WCE. This includes the handling of specific raw materials, the utilization of transfer, blending, testing and cleaning equipment; the preparation, adjustment, monitoring and sampling of solutions and the completion of paperwork associated with all of the aforementioned tasks. The incumbent also participates in the activities associated with the production line setup, monitoring, housekeeping and lot changeover tasks.
Principal Accountabilities

Comply with JM Health and Safety policies at all times.

Comply with JM, local, state, and federal regulatory requirements with regard to hazardous waste procedures for generation, identification and disposal.

Participate in equipment setup activities required to initiate or adjust washcoat slurries or final batches.

Handle, store and dispense chemicals in the preparation of washcoat slurries and final batches.

Operate and monitor the Auto Guide Vehicle (AGV) used for tank moving through the different blend stations as part of the batching process.

Assure that washcoat slurries or final blends are prepared according to the recipe submitted by the WCE. This includes the completion of all the information or checks associated with the batching process and those steps required to complete the batching records.

Operate and maintain test equipment in the batching tower labs (pH meter, thermometer, viscometer and particle size) according to the norms associated to this type of equipment. This includes the associated housekeeping tasks to keep the laboratory orderly and clean.

Operate and maintain equipment used for moving materials in or out of the batching tower (elevator, forklift or other similar).

Handling, identification and segregation of non-conforming blends.

Monitor and adjust final blends according to washcoat process control parameters.

Comply with specific goals related to the generation, identification, storage, reuse and disposal of rinse water or heels.

Comply with JM policies to avoid equipment contamination (PGM, Non PGM).

Handle, clean or dispose of empty containers, skids, bulks or bags according with JM Health and Safety policies.

Perform other duties associated with maintaining flow of production as assigned.

Participate in housekeeping duties to support JM safety operations and plant layout. Active participant of 5s philosophy.
