Description Responsible for the administration of the company’s state and local property tax function and making sure the company is in compliance with all state and local property tax statutes. Ensuring that correct amounts of state and local property tax are allocated and billed to lessees of property which is reported. Responsible for maintaining good service-minded relationships with external and internal parties involved in the entire property tax reporting process including assessors, lessees,  accounts receivable and lease administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation and filing of state and local property tax returns
  • Maintain tax calendar
  • Analysis of property tax assessments to ensure that property reported is not over assessed in value
  • Verify and pay property tax bills
  • Allocate property tax bills to individual lessees
  • Maintain hard copy and electronic files
  • Keep abreast of new legislative and other developments in the property tax area
  • Respond to inquiries made by the property taxing authorities with respect to returns filed and bills paid
  • Respond to inquiries made by lessees (or by lease administration and accounts receivable) with respect to returns filed and property tax allocated
  • Perform non-time consuming property tax research
  • Assist the Director of Tax with state and local property tax audits
  • Perform special projects of a tax or accounting nature as assigned by the Director of Tax

Requirements SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Moderate proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel
  • Basic understanding of accounting and business principles
  • Must be highly motivated individual with high level of initiative and a willingness to succeed
  • Must be team player willing to assist others at all levels of the organization
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide superior customer service and maintain cooperative working relationships. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and work autonomously or with a team.  
  • Strong attention to detail. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively on a one-on-one basis or in group setting.
  • Ability to exercise strict confidentiality
  • Must have the ability to learn and conceptualize quickly

Education/Certification:  

 

  • BA or BS Degree in Accounting or Economics.  

 

Experience PREFERRED:

 

  • 1-2 years of experience in property or sales tax or accounting fields
