Devereux Kanner’s residential programs and special education services offer a Speech Language Pathologist the wonderful opportunity to utilize a variety of techniques in an educationally based setting. The SLP works a traditional school work week of Monday to Friday. 
 

Devereux Kanner is seeking a speech language pathologist to develop an individualized plan of care to assess, diagnose and treat disorders related to speech, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, and fluency.

The student needs include:

• Assistance with phonological disorders
• oral motor functioning
• fluency disorders
• language processing
• assistive technology and other non-verbal language systems.

The SLP will have an opportunity to watch the progress of all treatment efforts as our students are with us for a longer duration than typical healthcare settings – from six months to several years. Patience is necessary in most cases as many students may not show rapid improvement. Ingenuity and imagination in adapting treatment to individual needs are valuable assets in this role.

The Speech-language pathologist is a member of the student’s treatment team and consults regularly with physicians, nurses, social workers, residential staff, and educational staff. SLP’s also do co-therapy with the Occupational Therapist. This gives the SLP exposure to the student’s overall goals and needs and an understanding of the important role speech therapy plays in promoting maximum development.

M.S. or M.A. in Speech Pathology with Certification of Clinical Competence (C.C.C.) or related requirements and experience for certification and Pennsylvania licensure.

Previous experience in remedial speech/language difficulties in a hospital or school treatment facility.  Valid driver's license must be maintained.
