Tax - Senior Associate - State and Local Tax Job

McGladrey is looking for a State & Local Tax ('SALT') Senior Associate to join our SALT practice. This role provides an opportunity to join a high-performing practice and will provide opportunities to build deep technical expertise in multistate income and franchise taxes, sales and use taxes, gross receipts taxes, employment taxes, credits and incentives, and due diligence reviews.

Responsibilities:

In this important role, you will be responsible for the following:

The delivery of profitable SALT services to our clients that appropriately utilize firm and client resources, providing timely, high quality client service that meets or exceeds client expectations with tax advice and consultation that enable clients to increase shareholder value.

- Exhibit and continue to develop specialized SALT knowledge within the Manufacturing, Wholesale, Distribution and Services industries
- Research and resolve technical state and local tax issues
- Plan and coordinate the flow of information with the client
- Review work papers and state tax returns
- Prepare technical memoranda, matrices and other client deliverables
- Supervise, mentor and develop staff members
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, yet function well with independent responsibilities
- Assist clients with tax controversies during audits and administrative appeals
- Participate in the billing and collection process
- Expected to recognize opportunities for providing additional services to clients, marketing technical specialty or expertise to clients

 Requirements
- BS Degree in Accounting
- CPA Certification (or pursuing CPA certification)
- 2 - 5 years of current or recent experience in public accounting or corporate tax department
- Familiarity with researching state tax laws and regulations
Strong communication and writing skills
- Tax compliance experience/background a plus
- Masters of Taxation, JD or MBA a plus
