 Description Duties will include: promoting quality and patient safety in obstetrical care by working directly with obstetrics physician, nurses, and clinical leadership to advance a culture of patient safety and adhere to national clinical practice standards which incorporate the principles and practice of patient safety; serving as a visible and recognizable advocate for patient safety in obstetrical clinical areas; maintaining active presence on the obstetrical unit interacting, communicating, and supporting nurses, physicians, and residents to promote safe culture and practice; enhancing communication and interpersonal interactions between nurses, physicians, and residents; leading patient safety administrative walk rounds; keeping abreast of changing national standards of clinical practice and safety medical literature; disseminating pertinent safety and specialty related information to leadership and staff; presenting patient and staff safety concerns to appropriate clinical forums; participating in and contributes to clinical practice review activities; assisting Obstetrics staff to coordinate implementation of best practices, patient safety initiatives, team training, etc.; participating in quality and risk management committees activities to identify quality and risk-related issues for resolution; performing periodic quality audit of medical records for proper medical record completion and documentation; participating in development and improvement of clinical policies and procedures for the provision of a safe and therapeutic patient environment; ensuring that pertinent patient safety policies are communicated and implemented; coordinating patient safety education and medical record documentation lectures, seminars and in-services; serving as liaison with system hospitals for patient safety issues and feedback surrounding patient transfers to UMMC; assisting and supports the healthcare team with disclosure when an adverse event or untoward outcome occurs and coordinates debriefing sessions; monitoring clinical outcomes; facilitiating interdisciplinary communication and education; implementing safety and loss prevention intiatives; and other duties as assigned.
 RequirementsQualified applicants will possess: MSN or CNM or MD; State Licensure and/or Board certification; Certification in specialty, preferred; EFM certification, preferred or within 6 months of hire; Obstetrical nurse or nurse midwife or obstetrician; Five years or more of obstetrical clinical experience; Strong knowledge base and clinical skills in electronic fetal monitoring, labor, and birth; Positive attitude, mature leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills; Strong organizational and analytical skills; Effective project management skills; Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills; Ability to work independently; Ability to work with others as team member; Must be flexible as to schedule and prioritizing projects; Ability to support, encourage, and foster collaboration and cooperation among team members.
