Position Summary:  Princeton University's Civil and Environmental Engineering Department solicits applications for a Senior Research Specialist to conduct field-based research into development and application of low-cost sensor systems for environmental monitoring. The position will be based at the Mpala Research Center (MRC) in central Kenya (www.mpala.org), an internationally-recognized site that hosts Princeton's NSF-supported ecohydrological observatory. This observatory is focused on partitioning evapotranspiration between surface evaporation and plant transpiration as well as dynamic characterization of plant water use and plant water stress in dryland ecosystems. Additional projects include hydrological monitoring of agricultural water use and crop performance in dryland farming systems.

Job duties will also include some routine maintenance of existing sensor systems although the main emphasis will be on novel sensor development and deployment.

The successful applicant will have a background in electrical engineering, with proficiency in environmental sensor design, calibration, and deployment.

The candidate will be expected to primarily reside at the MRC, where they will be provided internet access, dedicated research laboratory/office space, and full time access to a project vehicle. The Senior Research Specialist will also have access to long term residential facilities including the availablity of full room and board.
