Direct Support Professional/Residential Counselor

Devereux's Brandywine Program, located in Glenmoore, PA is just minutes from Exton, PA and about 35 minutes from Reading, PA. We are always looking for part-time help and have full-time needs as well as a Direct Support Professional. We have most shifts available!

As a Direct Support Professional, you will be responsible for:
• Ensuring adolescents are safe, healthy and living in a clean environment.
• Assisting, supporting and instructing adolescents in self-help skills designed to encourage independence.
• Establishing and maintaining a therapeutic rapport with adolescents
• Accompanying adolescents on community life outings, medical appointments and other recreational activities.

This position may involve working with a child/adolescent with Disruptive behavior disorders including: conduct, oppositional defiant, attention deficit hyperactivity, post-traumatic stress, intermittent explosive, and affective disorders or History of sexual/physical abuse, school refusal, psychotic symptoms and fears/anxieties interfering with social functioning, moderate to severe psychiatric disorders, Neurological impairments, developmental disabilities, pervasive developmental disorders & Aspergers.

As a Direct Support Professional, you would be responsible for providing quality care and motivation to clients along with maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment.

The duties include:
Implementing programs designed to meet the social, emotional, physical and personal needs of clients, ensuring clients are safe, healthy and living in a clean environment, assisting, supporting and instructing individuals in self-help skills designed to encourage independence, establishing and maintaining a therapeutic rapport with individuals, accompanying individuals on community life outings, medical appointments and other recreational activities.

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited program in an area of human services, which includes sociology, psychology, criminal justice, etc. AND one (1) year of human service experience OR two (2) years of direct care experience and a high school diploma or GED plus 12 semester credit hours in sociology, psychology, criminal justice, special education, etc. from an approved educational program.

Be empathetic, a team player, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, energetic, creative, understand the theories of behavior management and positive reinforcement, and represent yourself as a positive role model. Additionally, you must be able to complete eight days of new hire orientation class, have a strong passion for working with and helping children and adolescents with special needs and possess a valid license.

Physical Requirements: Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing. Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques upwards of 75-100 lbs. or more. Some repetitive wrist/hand movements, normal hearing and vision. Occasional use of computers and office equipment. Occasional driving of Devereux vehicles for business purposes. Ability to meet 100% mastery of Safe and Positive Approaches.

Work Environment: Regularly works inside areas that are adequately lighted and ventilated. Some fluctuations in temperature. Use of Protective equipment such as latex gloves, facial mask protective eyewear, and gown. Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Some degree of physical involvement in exercise of Safe and Positive Approaches.
