RN - OB Clinical Educator/Part-time Days

Job Description

Job Summary:

Promotes excellence in nursing care and contributes to the growth and development of nursing staff through clinical education activities in support of the nursing vision.  Assists the nursing staff in the acquisition of  patient care/practice/documentation skills and knowledge by assessing needs, developing programs to meet those needs, providing support to preceptors and staff, and evaluating programs for desirable outcomes.  Functions within a shared governance organization and serves as education support/consultant to shared governance council members.  Works closely with peer group and other support departments in assessing needs and developing programs (may include Education Services, Unit-based Educators, Information Technology, Interdisciplinary Documentation Team, Superuser Group, etc.).


Essential Duties:


  1. Assesses, researches, coordinates/facilitates, implements, and evaluates educational programs, services, and systems as requested by VP Nursing or designate and/or Shared Governance Councils.

  2. Provides clinical nursing education expertise and leadership to members of the Education Council, and assists in skill development of council members.  Additionally serves as a clinical education resource to other councils, nursing staff, and nursing leadership.

  3. Assumes shared responsibility for the facilitation of nursing orientation.  Develops systems and approaches to enhance learning and application of skills as requested.

  4. Assumes primary responsibility for the development, promotion, and support of an effective nursing preceptor program.  Works directly with the assigned department preceptors, director, and staff member to facilitate a skill/competency development plan during the probationary period.

  5. Contributes to the development and maintenance of educational tools and resources that integrate adult education theories, organizational development principles, and quality improvement practices.

  6. Participates in new products evaluation, staff training and education, and implementation as requested by the Shared Governance Council.

  7. Utilizes and implements research findings as a basis for clinical decisions and practice.


Job Requirements

Education:

  • BSN required from an accredited college/university.
  • MSN required from an approved college/university or academic plan to complete within 18 months of beginning position.

Experience:


  • Nursing education experience which demonstrates progressive experience in the planning, development, and evaluation of adult education programs preferred.
  • Nursing leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of previous experience in all aspects of OB nursing to include labor, delivery, and mother/baby care.
  • Experience in the care of high risk patients is preferred.

License/Certification:

  • Current licensure to practice in the State of Nebraska as a Registered Nurse and appropriate certifications required. (BLS, ACLS, and NRP)
  • Individual is responsible to maintain a current NE nursing license.
  • BLS or ACLS instructor certifications; specialty certifications preferred.
