Job Description: Manager, Software Engineering
Specific Skills: The candidate must have a complete understanding of the software engineering process from software planning through software verification. Excellent leadership skills with proven experience leading software development and software design projects. Candidate must have interest and demonstrated ability leading and developing people and processes. This candidate must have an understanding in software design, implementation, debug, integration and test. This candidate must have an expertise in the particular skill area he/she is responsible for. The candidate needs to be a highly productive team player with excellent communication skills.
Duties: Primary responsibilities will be to ensure the performance of their direct reports and that the defined software engineering process, within their functional area, is continuously improving and being followed by all engineers. Candidate will be responsible for managing a team of highly talented engineers by setting individual goals, performing employee reviews, and coordinating training/career development. The Software Unit Manager shall ensure that their staff is productive and efficient in completing their assigned project work by assisting them in achieving their technical, cost, and schedule objectives, as needed.
The Software Unit Manager will help drive efficient processes, create best practices for software development of their functional area as well as perform code and design reviews. The Software Unit Manager will also be responsible for career counseling for each direct report with performance evaluations throughout the year. The Software Unit Manager will prepare and administer performance reviews of their direct reports. The Software Unit Manager will be involved with the career growth and retention of their staff.
The focus of the Software Unit Manager is primarily leadership and management. The Software Unit Manager will be asked at times to perform direct contract work as time permits.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements: U.S. Citizen, Bachelors Degree in an engineering discipline, Masters desired. 8 years of technical experience in software development with 1 year experience managing a software development team. Active Security Clearance required (DOD Secret minimum).
Additional Job Notes: Development experience in any of the following areas would be considered highly beneficial: Information Assurance (Type 1, commercial IPSEC, hardware/software based encryption, key management, secure communications both wired and wireless), Naval Communications (interior or exterior), Tactical Recorders both spinning and solid state, SIGINT Systems, Unattended Ground Sensors.
