Job Description: Job Description: Responsible for organizing complex activities for the development, implementation, and maintenance of engineering projects. Performs analysis and studies to determine requirements, immediate and long-range plans and designs. Requires a wide range of experience, using professional concepts and company objectives to resolve issues in creative and effective ways. Acts as technical consultant within and outside assigned department in area of expertise; regarded as subject matter expert. Utilizes high level of communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships. Operates with considerable latitude for unreviewed action or decision. May perform engineering design evaluations including cost-effective utilization of materials. May design, develop, test and implement all components, equipment, and software within the functional area of the organization. May perform administrative work relating to projects and assignments. Promotes positive change in the company's business strategy through achievement of customer specific objectives and technological innovation of practical and profitable nature.
Engineering and design of fiber optic transmission systems, multiplexers, digital cross-connect, 48V DC systems, switches, routers, voice switches, and remote terminals. Develop funding approval with project plans and requirements including cost estimates.
Develop the Scope Of Work including installation design packages, ordering materials, and monitoring expenditures to prevent overages. Document procedures and Engineering Standards to reduce training time and ensure quality and consistency of output. Responsible for overall project management of jobs to ensure they are on schedule and within budget. Creation of budget to actual variance reporting for assigned projects. Analyze capacity reports to ensure bandwidth for network requirements and growth trends. Interpretation of Engineering processes, procedures, and standards. Analyze data base of records, Circuit Layout Reports, and equipment records to determine and verify existing equipment or configurations.
Job Requirements
In depth understanding of telecommunications industry; in depth knowledge of one or more engineering disciplines and vendor equipment. In depth knowledge of accepted engineering practices. Computer software knowledge to include Microsoft Office, Custom Planning Tools and Databases. Excellent analytical skills; the ability to prioritize projects; excellent oral and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills. Has well-developed leadership qualities. Excellent project management skills.
Education and Experience: College degree in Engineering or a related field and 5-7 years professional level experience with 0-2 years supervisory experience for roles with supervision; or 9+ years professional level related Engineering/Technical experience with 0-2 years supervisory experience for roles with supervision; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Engineering/Technical experience required.
