Responsibilities:
 
The Sr. Specialist, Business Project Management and Project Planning is responsible for the following areas:  
  •  Coordinate and maintain the online 2-3 year product strategy - Work with managers and staff in the eCommerce organization to capture concepts and ideas for new functionality, navigational improvements, and interface features and drive product strategies for United.com, Mileage Plus and other travel properties within the eCommerce group.
  • Develop and manage a strong steering committee process - Develop a cross-functional steering committee and process where new concepts, ideas and progressing initiatives can be coordinated and approved.  A strong focus on ensuring solid business case development on ideas and concepts are vital in carrying out this responsibility. 
  • Develop and maintain product development and project management processes - Collaborate with the product development organizations and ISD to develop an agreed-to product development process and project management process, which will include document templates, RACI charts and other documentation and processes to support this effort.
  • Manage the eCommerce project portfolio - Coordinate with the product development organization and ISD to maintain the active list of projects and the associated attributes for tracking, reporting, and resource forecasting.  A critical piece of this responsibility is to ensure communications are timely and relevant so as to allow a clear focus on execution of projects. 
  • Monitor competitive enhancements and technology improvements - This position will constantly be looking for new competitive enhancements in the marketplace and technology improvements that united.com should be aware of and take into consideration in new concept development.  This includes documenting and sending regular updates to management and staff on new developments and following up as appropriate.

Job Requirements

Education: 
  •  BA/BS required
  • MBA preferred  

Experience:

  • 3+ years business experience in project/portfolio management and/or ecommerce management disciplines. 
  • Direct experience in B2C eCommerce/website product management and/or PMO development and management preferred.
  • Experience with airline booking and ticketing systems desired (GDS - Global Distribution Systems: Galileo, Amadeus, Worldspan, Apollo, Sabre, ITA, ATSE, etc.).
 Skills:
  • Excellent planning, product strategy, marketing, analytical and project management skills. 
  • Strong business analysis skills with experience in developing business cases for new technology projects/products. 
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a positive manner with people in various groups and levels within the organization. 
  • Ability to foster and work effectively in a team environment.      
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Self-motivated, able to proactively work toward a goal independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce results in ambiguous and time-constrained situations. 
  • Must be able to adapt to and work successfully in a fast-paced, changing environment.
