Great Fortune 500 Company, located in the Western Suburbs of Chicago, is currently seeking a DB2 Systems Programmer on mainframe. Candidate requires an expert knowledge of DB2 on zOS mainly, and zLINUX operating systems is preferred. Experience with other database formats such as IMS, Adabas, Natural, Datacom, Oracle and IDMS is advantageous. The DB SP must be able to support DB2 from a systems* standpoint from the ground up. Expert level knowledge of installing, maintaining, monitoring and tuning DB2 subsystems on the mainframe is required; and some experience with the other databases is preferred. This DB SP must have an expert knowledge of different DB2 utilities and third party products for these database types. This SP must be able to ensure the environment is properly backed up, documented and supported. The ability to apply new software versions and releases, ongoing maintenance levels and emergency fixes is required. DB2 Data Sharing expertise is also needed. This SP must also be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally with clients. The DB SP must also be able to support Disaster Recovery exercises and procdures. This System Programmer must be able to handle multiple, complex tasks and establish priorities on an ongoing basis. The DB System Programmer must have experience dealing with multiple clients and environments at the same time.
Specific tasks include:
* Installation of new DB subsystems on the mainframe, and zLinux platforms.
* Keeping version, release and maintenance levels current.
* Monitoring and reporting on DB subsystems as to performance and reliability.
* Identifying, resolving and preventing DB subsystem problems.
* Design and implement database backup and recovery strategies.
* Provide professional guidance as to DB subsystem implementation and use.
* Working with the customer to plan and implement all changes.
Specific knowledge requirements:
* Expert DB system software knowledge
* zOS operating system knowledge
* zLINUX administrator skills
* Expert knowledge in the use of DB Utilities for the specified database types
* DB2 connect
* DB connectivity methods including all the various JDBC drivers
* SMP/E and ServerPac knowledge is required
