Hours: Job Details: Individuals in the Staff Scientist III, Bioengineering position have a Ph.D. degree, or Master Degree and are fully competent professional, independent technical experts. The individual reports to a principal investigator. The individual can serve in several roles in the research area depending on their scientific specialty and needs of the research program. The individual will participate directly in the design and conduct of investigation and discovery and will therefore need technical knowledge pertinent to the bioengineering field as it relates to surgical innovation The individual creates opportunities to enhance technical methodology or content through expansion of existing, or development of, new efforts; may extend technology into new application areas; contributes or leads in major intellectual development activities. The individual participates in technical meetings, workshops, and committees. In this senior role, the individual applies innovative problem-solving approaches to enhance organizational capabilities; uses peer network to expand technical capabilities and identify new research opportunities in collaboration with the principal investigator. The senior staff scientist assists with the management of resource allocations, and manages day-to-day activities in the laboratory, for example: as purchasing, oversight of laboratory animals, radioactivity, and biosafety issues. The individual supervises junior scientists, graduate students or technicians and redirects efforts to achieve task/project objectives or enhance quality. The individual independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems from the principal investigator. Ph.D. (or equivalent doctoral degree) or master degree from an accredited college or university Greater than 8 years of progressive specialized experience in a field of research; established technical expertise; serves as a resource to research faculty and staff at CNMC. *cb *vet
