Overview
MHM Services, Inc. (MHM), based in Vienna, Virginia, is the country's leading provider of specialized mental health services to healthcare and human services agencies, as well as to correctional systems. First incorporated as Mental Health Management, Inc. in 1981, the company organized and managed mental health services in hospitals, community agencies, nursing homes, and state mental health systems. For many years, the firm recruited staff, designed and implemented clinical service programs, and provided on-going management services.

Since 1997, we have successfully focused our resources on the growing need for expert mental health services in state correctional systems and local detention facilities. That year, we organized MHM Correctional Services, Inc. We also secured our first two contracts to provide statewide mental health program and specialist services in Tennessee and Georgia to become the largest provider of correctional mental health services.

With 25 years of experience, MHM is the leading national provider of contracted specialty mental health care services. Today we provide mental health services in nine states. Our contracts include seven statewide contracts, and four municipal jails.

These contracts:

Span over 265 correctional facilities
Cover a total population of over 299,000 inmates
Employ over 2,000 staff and providers

The scope of mental health services is set by each client agency based upon organizational requirements and service needs. We work along side and in concert with separately contracted medical health service providers and pharmacies while providing fully integrated mental health services.

People
AN ELITE TEAM

MHM consistently attracts the best and brightest professionals from the correctional mental health care field - among the fastest growing segments of behavioral health today and consequently one of the most promising career paths for the future. Our psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, RNs, nurse practitioners and program managers enjoy building their career with a nationwide leader dedicated solely to mental health care, working alongside esteemed colleagues and the most experienced management staff in correctional mental health.

PROFESSIONALLY REWARDING

For those with a sense of mission, and those who want to better position their career for the future, working with the underserved correctional system population is both stimulating and enriching. You'll have the opportunity to practice cutting-edge treatment techniques in a highly secure and modern environment for patients who need and overwhelmingly appreciate your efforts.

Inmates are also among the most clinically interesting populations. And because the average prison stay is two years, you will have the time to initiate change, track progress and conduct more follow-up work than you would in other settings. Further, the tendency of inmates to be medication-compliant helps to eliminate some of the frustration that practitioners encounter working elsewhere.

LESS STRESS - GREATER BALANCE

What's more, at MHM, complex and restrictive managed care policies don't come into play. Nor do the difficulties of operating a private practice. Instead, you receive the support and the tools you need to get the job done right. Our reporting and administrative systems reduce red tape. Our managers embrace progressive treatment methods. Most important, your attempts to add value and advance change will be encouraged -- not thwarted.

Clearly defined goals and regular working hours also allow MHM professionals to enjoy a greater balance between their personal and professional lives. And on average, our income levels are higher than those in other mental health settings.
