Overview
Freeport-McMoRan (FCX) is a leading international mining company with headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. FCX operates large, long-lived, geographically diverse assets with significant proven and probable reserves of copper, gold and molybdenum. FCX is the world’s largest publicly traded copper producer and has a dynamic portfolio of operating, expansion and growth projects in the copper industry. FCX is also the world’s largest producer of molybdenum and a significant gold producer. The company’s portfolio of assets includes the Grasberg mining complex in Indonesia, the world’s largest copper and gold mine in terms of recoverable reserves, significant mining operations in the Americas, including the large scale Morenci and Safford minerals districts in North America and the Cerro Verde and El Abra operations in South America, and the highly prospective Tenke Fungurume minerals district in the Democratic Republic of Congo. At December 31, 2010, FCX had proven and probable copper reserves of 120.5 billion pounds. Our global workforce includes over 29,700 employees. These discoveries and improvements in processing technology continue to extend the expected life of these mines. Freeport-McMoRan exploration teams aggressively seek new mining opportunities in North and South America, Indonesia, Africa, and other regions. In several cases, we pursue these opportunities with joint-venture partners, thus maximizing our exploration budget and spreading costs and risks among several parties. Our expertise and reputation afford us many partnering opportunities, yet we pursue only those few that can pass our rigorous screens for adding economic value to the company. In addition, our Process Technology Center and the exploration group collaborate to ensure the continued discovery and development of economically viable mineral reserves and creation of low-cost production and process technologies. Based in the United States, the center is one of the industry’s most advanced facilities for R&D in metals recovery. Among our technological advances is the process known as SX/EW – or, Solution Extraction/Electro-Winning, which blends chemistry and electricity to produce flat copper sheets called electrolytic copper cathodes containing 99.9% pure copper. We also produce copper concentrate through a physical separation process, producing a product we send to smelters and refineries. Most essential is our core competence in safety. We maintain a global team to share worker safety expertise, advancing our company-wide objective for zero workplace injuries and occupational illnesses. Although our operations are among the safest in the industry, we are committed to continuous improvement in creating a safe and healthy work environment.

Benefits typically include health insurance, life insurance, vacation and sick time, educational benefits and investment options among others. We currently rank second among those producers at approximately 9 percent of total worldwide estimated mined copper production. Our competitive position is based on the quality and grade of our ore bodies and our ability to manage costs compared with other producers. We have a diverse portfolio of mining operations with varying ore grades and cost structures. Our costs are driven by the location, grade and nature of our ore bodies and the level of input costs, including energy, labor and equipment. Freeport-McMoRan is a member of the S&P 500 Stock Index, ranks 154th in the Fortune 500.

Training & Awareness
Training, continuing education and development are critical components to ensuring long-term operating efficiency in any business. Freeport-McMoRan supports a number of learning and professional development opportunities for its employees and members of the communities where we operate. Each of our employees is provided with a range of technical training specific to their jobs, such as use of equipment, drivers training and maintenance. Annual training plans are developed for personnel, both at an operational and supervisory level. This activity ensures that employees progress within the company and that we are able to fill available positions. These matters become even more important when operating in a developing region without a long history of advanced educational programs. Job training programs in Papua must offer more than technical skills development. During 2007, the Quality Management Services Department provided 8 million hours of training to over 20,000 participants, a 14 percent increase over 2006. Training programs range from basic literacy and mathematics to “pre-apprenticeship” programs for individuals with no prior career training, advanced technical apprenticeships, career and leadership development, and business management programs that provide world-class skills to our workers.
