Culture
One of our corporate goals is to attract, develop, and retain values-driven, culturally diverse, appropriately skilled and service-oriented people. We are establishing ourselves as the health care employer of choice in the region and have been recognized as KentuckianaWorks’ 2005 and 2003 Employer of the Year for our innovation and responsiveness in enhancing workforce and economic development in Greater Louisville. In 2006 Norton Healthcare is being honored as one of the 21 “Best Places to Work in Kentucky” among large-sized companies. Norton Healthcare seeks to develop and nurture a culture in which the organization and its employees support one another’s goals in an environment of teamwork, participation and professional growth based on respect for the concerns and expectations of each individual. Everyone’s opinion matters, regardless of job title. Employees participate in focus groups, committees and surveys to help us determine what benefits and aspects of their jobs they value and what changes they would like to see in their workplace. Many adjustments and new programs have been initiated as a result of ideas shared by our employees. At Norton Healthcare, our employees have a voice. Norton Healthcare also fosters an atmosphere of open and honest communication, making every effort to keep employees informed about issues that affect them, Norton Healthcare and the health care community as a whole. This is achieved through: publication of a monthly employee newsletter; facility-specific newsletters; ongoing all-employee e-mails about new programs, services, events, awards and media attention; periodic voice mail messages to all employees from the president and CEO; an annual “Report to Employees” that summarizes changes made during the previous year and highlights new programs and EmployeeLINK, an intranet service dedicated to communicating with employees and improving access to pertinent information. Quality Care
We recognize that high-level medical care requires state-of-the-art technology and a commitment to the continued pursuit of innovative excellence. Evidence of this commitment can be found in the following:

  • The Intra-operative Magnetic Resonance Imaging (iMRI) Center, which gives surgeons a detailed, real-time view of their work, allowing them to better evaluate an operation while in progress.
  • Transmyocardial Revascularization, a specialized laser heart procedure performed more often at Norton Audubon Hospital than anywhere else in the world
  • Advanced diagnostic imaging services at multiple Norton facilities, including multi-slice CT scanners, used to detect early stages of cancer and heart disease
  • Norton Cancer Care, which recently became the first in the world to enroll a patient in a revolutionary genetics clinical trial through its Louisville Oncology research program
  • Two of the region’s leading Level III neonatal intensive care units at Kosair Children’s Hospital and Norton Suburban Hospital, providing peace of mind to parents and high-level service to newborns with special needs
  • An ongoing relationship with the University of Louisville, allowing Norton Healthcare to remain at the forefront of medical research and education
