Making the Use of Prescription Drugs More Affordable
We share a common cause with each of our clients, helping them to offer a healthy prescription-drug benefit today, tomorrow and into the future. It is increasingly obvious that spending additional healthcare dollars for no additional health benefit is wasteful and threatens the very existence of employer-sponsored benefits. We align our interests with those of our clients, working with them to help keep the prescription-drug benefit off the endangered list by offering proven programs to drive out waste.

The patients we serve fill their prescriptions at any of more than 59,000 retail pharmacies across the country or through our Home Delivery pharmacies, and they have 24-hour-a-day access to our Patient Care Contact Centers. We process 390 million retail prescriptions and 40 million Home Delivery prescriptions each year, and electronically check each patient’s prescription to enhance safety, verify eligibility, ensure proper payment and identify savings opportunities. We issue more than 30 million safety alerts annually.

    Home Delivery
    Express Scripts Home Delivery provides members with a safe and convenient way of obtaining their maintenance medications. When a benefit plan is aligned correctly, Home Delivery saves money for members and clients.

    Clinical and Safety Management
    Express Scripts offers our clients many clinical and safety management programs to encourage the safe and appropriate use of prescription drugs.

    Trend Management Programs
    Express Scripts offers a comprehensive suite of trend management programs all geared to produce substantial savings for our clients and their members by encouraging the use of generics, low-cost brands and cost-effective distribution methods like Home Delivery and CuraScript specialty pharmacy.

    Specialty Pharmacy
    Specialty patients face tremendous challenges resulting from their complex and chronic health conditions. Patients with these conditions require a higher level of support, such as the extraordinary care provided through CuraScript, Express Scripts Specialty Pharmacy. CuraScript’s high-touch business model is patient-focused, concentrating on delivering a higher level of personal care, service and value to meet the complex needs of specialty patients.

    Consumer-Directed Healthcare (CDHC)
    CDHC is a growing trend in healthcare. It is designed to limit fast-growing health care costs by empowering, informing and incenting consumers to make more cost-effective decisions about their health. Although “consumerism” includes many elements, the most popular is a high deductible health plan in conjunction with a tax-deferred savings account, often a Health Savings Account (HSA).

    Medicare Part D
    With the passage of the Medicare Modernization Act in 2003, plan sponsors now have several options to choose from for providing retirees with prescription drug coverage. Through collaboration with its plan sponsors, Express Scripts has created a suite of retiree products designed to meet plan sponsors’ and their beneficiaries’ needs.
