Otis is the world's largest manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways.
Elisha Graves Otis, our founder, invented the "safety elevator" in 1853, establishing Otis as the world leader in technological innovations, setting the industry standard for safety, functionality and reliability. That’s how we’ve grown to become the largest people-moving company on the planet, with more than 1.9 million elevators and 130,000 escalators in operation worldwide.
Our elevators are found in more than 200 countries and territories (including nearly half of the world’s tallest buildings), and represent approximately 27% of the elevator and escalator new equipment market globally. In fact, the Otis Gen 2™ elevator system has completely revolutionized the entire industry and is now the fastest-selling elevator of all time.
Otis is also known as a successful business unit of $54.8-billion United Technologies Corporation (UTC). Other UTC subsidiaries and product lines include Carrier heating and air-conditioning systems, Sikorsky helicopters, Hamilton-Sundstrand aerospace systems, and Pratt & Whitney aircraft engines, gas turbines and space propulsion systems.

Otis Elevator Company is committed to providing employees with the quality of life that enables them to reach their full potential at work and in their personal lives. Our family-friendly policies and programs help employees grow personally while balancing their home and professional lives.
Our comprehensive benefits program provides valuable financial protection to employees and their families. Although benefits vary across locations and job categories, most benefits programs include medical, dental, life insurance, dependent life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan, savings plan, holidays and vacation. From comprehensive insurance programs to generous vacation, Otis offers an extensive and flexible benefits program.
HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR BENEFITS PROGRAM
Medical and Dental
Health care coverage is one of the most important benefits for both employers and employees. Quality medical and dental plans are offered to help protect employees and their families from the burden of paying high medical costs. All of the medical options provide coverage for routine and medically necessary care, so employees have the comprehensive coverage they need to stay healthy. Medical and dental coverage is available to all Otis employees, their spouse and eligible dependents. Prescription drug services are automatically provided in conjunction with medical benefits.
Each covers a range of services, but differs in co-payments, deductibles, out-of-pocket maximum amounts and employee contributions.
Life Insurance
Life insurance offers employees an excellent way to protect their family's financial security. If an employee dies while being employed at Otis Elevator Company, the life insurance benefit is paid to help the surviving family adjust to some of the financial changes they will face. Various life insurance options are offered based upon job location and category.
Dependent Life Insurance
The death of a family member can have serious financial consequences. If an employee's spouse dies, the family income might be significantly reduced or the employee might have to start spending more of their income on childcare. Dependent life insurance offers some protection against the impact of these financial changes.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance
Otis offers Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance which provides additional financial protection if an employee is seriously injured or dies in an on the job accident.
Disability Insurance
Income protection in the event of an illness or injury is provided through Otis’ benefits plan. Coverage is automatic and provided at no cost to employees. Otis offers three disability benefits-sick pay, short-term disability and long-term disability programs. The amount of coverage is based on an employee's earnings. These benefits are designed to work together to provide income and relieve some of the worry about how employees will support themselves or their families if they are unable to work because of illness, injury or pregnancy.
Reimbursement Accounts for Health Care and Dependent Care
The Health Care and Dependent Care Reimbursement Accounts allow employees to set aside pre-tax dollars to pay for the cost of eligible health care and dependent care expenses. By using these accounts, employees may reduce federal income tax payments by directing part of their before-tax salary to a reimbursement account. This means they pay fewer taxes and have more take home pay.
Retirement Plan
The retirement plan is a great benefit and a valuable part of the overall benefits package. Fully paid by the company, it is designed to provide a baseline of retirement income that works with your other sources of retirement income, such as Social Security, your personal investments and money you save through the Savings Plan.
Savings Plan
As a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (UTC), Otis Elevator employees participate in the UTC sponsored savings plans that help employees save for the future. When employees join a savings plan, they save for retirement and other long-term goals by contributing a portion of their pay on a pretax and/or after tax basis. UTC matches a portion of their contribution with UTC stock.
Vacations and Holidays
Depending on their position, years of service, and work location, employees can earn anywhere from two to five weeks of vacation per year. There are eleven holidays each year with the schedule varying by location. Both vacation and holidays are prorated for part-time employees. In addition, employees may purchase up to five vacation days per year during open enrollment.
College Planning
Offered through Fidelity Investments, the Section 529 savings plan allows employees to save money on an after-tax basis through payroll deductions. When college expenses are incurred, the savings plus any investment earnings are distributed free of federal income taxes for qualified college-related expenses.
Employee Scholarship Program
Otis encourages associates to continue their formal education outside of their working hours for the benefit of both the associate and Otis. Otis employees are eligible for the UTC Employees Scholar Program. Under this program, UTC pays all tuition and academic fees for employees who are accepted and enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited institution, both in the Unites States and internationally.
In addition, employees are entitled to paid time off for half their classroom hours per week (up to a maximum of 3 hours per week. UTC further rewards its employee scholar when they graduate. Employees who attain a bachelor's or graduate degree will be awarded the number of shares of UTC common stock equal to $10,000.00. Those who attain an associate's degree will be awarded the number of shares of UTC common stock equal to $5000.00, and additionally will be awarded the number of shares of UTC common stock equal to $5000.00 if they go on to complete their bachelor's degree.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
The Employee Assistance Program is available to assist associates and their families who are experiencing work performance difficulty as a result of alcoholism, drug dependency, or personal or medical problems. The voluntary, confidential counseling and guidance service is an effective professional approach to personal problem resolution.
Adoption Assistance Program
Expenses relating to the legal adoption of a child under 18 will be covered up to a maximum of $3,000 per child for full time employees and $2000 for part time employees. Associates considering adoption, or actively involved in an adoption proceeding, should review the details of the Adoption Assistance Program.
Matching Gift Program
