Overview

San Angelo is a regional medical center serving a diverse population of more than a quarter million people. You will have an excellent opportunity for a rewarding, satisfying practice.

San Angelo is a 104,010 metro population city in West-central Texas. The confluence of three rivers makes it a unique oasis. Three lakes frame the city to the west, and beautiful rivers course through town.

Many people note San Angelo enjoys the best of both worlds – it is large enough to have all the amenities you expect and more in a city, and it is small enough to be a great place to raise a family. San Angelo does not have all the stress and trouble usually associated with a larger city; commutes are short; the crime rate is low; people are friendly and comfortable with diversity.

Fort Concho National Historic Landmark is the best-preserved Indian Wars fort in the nation. A nationally famous art museum, a city orchestra and chorale, the oldest civic theatre in Texas, a civic ballet company, historic Concho Street and the world’s most diverse collection of water lilies are just some of many cultural amenities that will enrich the lives of you and your family.

Boasting a mostly mild year-round climate, San Angelo is great for all kinds of outdoor activities. Outdoor recreation possibilities abound at San Angelo's three lakes and state park, and nearby with easy drives to the Big Bend area of Texas and the Texas Hill Country. Hunting and fishing opportunities attract people from around the nation.

San Angelo also is a center for education. Angelo State University provides more than 100 undergraduate and 21 graduate programs to more than 6,000 students annually. Howard College provides quality technical education opportunities, including nursing and other health-care specialties. Goodfellow AFB is the nation’s premier training facility for cryptologic and general intelligence career fields for all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and allied countries. Approximately 10,000 military students are stationed at Goodfellow during a year; there are approximately 2,500 permanent duty personnel.

San Angelo’s housing costs and cost of living are below national averages. Major employers include the two regional medical centers, the world’s largest manufacturer of surgical sutures, Blue Cross-Blue Shield, SITEL, Inc. and Verizon.
