Overview
The company was founded by Stephen Ross in 1972 as "Related Housing Companies." From the beginning, Mr. Ross understood that only an experienced, multi-skilled team of professionals could drive the success of the complex, integrated real estate company he envisioned.

During the 1970s, Related took the lead in developing quality multifamily government assisted housing developments. By the end of the decade, Related had reached several milestones, raising over $40 million in equity to support more than 50 developments with value in excess of $250 million. Strategically, Related also used the 1970s to consolidate its leadership in creating innovative investment vehicles for institutions and individuals.
