The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) is Colorado’s oldest and largest home health care agency. Founded in 1889 as the Flower Mission, the agency is a not for profit agency that provides skilled nursing, rehabilitation therapy, social work, personal care assistance, homemaking, hospice at home care and wellness services. The wellness services include immunizations and screenings in the community, in the workplace and for seniors. In addition to a dedicated staff and caring volunteers, Mile High United Way, the Colorado Trust, the Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation, the Helen K. and Arthur E. Johnson Foundation and various governmental agencies provide support to the Visiting Nurse Association. Additional grants from private foundations and individual donations help the VNA provide health care services to the underserved and underinsured populations in 14 Colorado counties.

In the greater Denver area and in Colorado Springs, the Visiting Nurse Association's nurses, therapists, other health caregivers and volunteers provide professional and compassionate services that foster health, independence, dignity and comfort. VNA Home Care professionals take the important team approach to supporting patients’ health by evaluating needs and developing an individualized, comprehensive plan of care. Nurses, doctors, social workers and therapists - including speech, occupational and physical – contribute to the patient’s successful recovery from surgery or illness and collaborate to assure the home care experience is positive for the patient and family.
The Visiting Nurse Association provides options for compassionate, individualized care in the home, at the end of life. The team of VNA medical professionals, including physicians, nurses and social workers, collaborate with the patient’s physician to develop a plan of care for patients as well as their caregivers. VNA is able to help patients manage pain while providing extensive counseling and social service support to address emotional and spiritual aspects of the patient and family coping with a final illness. VNA’s hospice care is paid for by Medicare Hospice Benefits which cover care related to a terminal diagnosis, and regular Medicare benefits to pay for care unrelated to the terminal illness.
