Security Products and Services
Our security brands have a legacy of innovation that dates back almost two centuries - beginning with the patent of the Chubb Detector Lock in 1818. Since then, our companies have pioneered many other innovations, including the development of the burglar-resistant safe, the first postal letter box and the first time-lock. Although these products have been improved over the years, the fundamental designs of these devices are still in use today.
Fire Safety Products and Services
Our fire safety legacy begins in 1917 with the development of Walter Kidde's fire detection and extinguishing system for shipboard use. Early innovations of Kidde also include the first portable CO2 fire extinguisher in 1925, while recent advances include the first wireless networked smoke alarms and the world's most accurate carbon monoxide sensor.
An Evolving Legacy
Today, we continue the heritage of innovation and leadership that are the hallmarks of our companies. In security, we are developing intelligent video surveillance systems that automatically identify unusual patterns or movement. In fire safety, we continue developing new, more environmentally friendly technologies - without sacrificing the quality and efficacy that our customers have come to expect. We are also building interfaces between system components to deliver comprehensive and scalable solutions that will define the next generation of Fire & Security products and services.

A Commitment to Diversity
At UTC Fire & Security, we are strongly committed to promoting workforce diversity. We believe that fostering a diverse workforce is not only a moral and ethical responsibility, but a best-in-class business practice. Why? For a company with operations in more than 30 countries, a team that is as diverse as our customer base – and can quickly respond to their needs – is a team that wins.
Employee Scholar Program
UTC Fire & Security believes in investing in the future of its employees. And the best way to do that is by giving them the education they can use for a lifetime. Under the Employee Scholar Program, UTC pays costs for employees, both in the United States and internationally, who go back to school. That includes 100 percent of registration and tuition at schools that satisfy the Employee Scholar Program requirements, required academic fees and course-required books.
A Degree in any Field
Employees can obtain a degree in any field, whether or not it's job-related. Be it a bachelor's degree in art or a graduate degree in physics, students can receive up to 50 percent of the total credit hours for all courses taken in an academic period as paid time off for studying, to a maximum of three hours per week.
Rewards for Graduation
UTC further rewards its Employee Scholars when they graduate. Upon completion of a qualifying bachelor's or graduate degree, U.S.-based employees will receive an award of UTC stock. UTC understands that the cost of this educational program is a sound investment. Stock awards made outside the United States are subject to additional rules.
