Overview

Sterling is a nationally-recognized family of insurance products designed to:

  • Provide a secure, cooperative and financially sound associate for providers who treat Medicare beneficiaries


  • Offer enrollees a range of Medicare plans suited to their financial situation, including the nation’s first Medicare Advantage Private Fee For Service Plan**, as well as standard Medicare Supplement plans; and


  • Support the patient/physician relationship.


Sterling Option I was the nation’s first Medicare Advantage Private Fee For Service Plan. All of the Sterling Medicare Advantage plans offer some distinct advantages that eliminate or minimize many of the concerns hospitals have about providing service in the Medicare environment. Facilities are compensated on a fee-for-service basis. No utilization review is conducted other than as required by Medicare. There is no retrospective review. Physicians and patients determine the course of treatment without interference. Claims are paid quickly and, in most cases, can be filed electronically. Sterling plans join you in your commitment to improving the healthcare of your community by responding to the needs of Medicare beneficiaries.

Sterling’s range of additional Medicare products include plans that offer conventional first-dollar coverage, both with and without network hospital restrictions. Available in most geographic areas, these products are described on subsequent areas of this site and detailed in a comparative chart in our Provider Section. While the family of plans is intended to offer maximum flexibility to Sterling enrollees by enabling them to move from one plan to another as their needs and financial situations change*, Sterling plans treat all providers with the respect they deserve as the critical link between the patient and their health.
