Hastings named to Modern Healthcare’s “100 Most Powerful” list Saint Luke’s Health System leader named for third time KANSAS CITY, Mo. – G. Richard Hastings, president and CEO of Saint Luke’s Health System, was ranked number 44 on Modern Healthcare magazine’s annual “100 Most Powerful People in Health Care” list. Hastings was previously named in 2004 and 2005. He is the only Kansas City area person included on the list this year. “The congratulations really go to the employees and physicians of Saint Luke’s Health System who’ve earned our national reputation for quality leadership and outstanding care,” Hastings said. “They’re the ones who make it possible for me to be included on such a notable list.” The list appeared in the Aug. 27, 2007, issue, and emphasized the increasing challenges of access to health care. Number one on the list is Sister Carol Keehan, president of the Catholic Health Association of Washington. Others included Bill Gates, President George W. Bush, Sen. Barack Obama, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. Each August, Modern Healthcare, a national industry magazine, publishes a list of the 100 most powerful people in health care. Readers vote on the magazine’s Web site from a list of 300 finalists. More than 26,500 ballots and 265,000 votes were submitted this year. In 2004 Hastings was named a recipient of the CEO IT Achievement Award by Modern Healthcare and the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society for his leadership and commitment to using information technology to advance his health care organization’s strategic goals. Saint Luke’s Hospital, Saint Luke’s Health System’s flagship facility, received the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for 2003, the top honor a U.S. company can receive for quality management and quality achievement.
