Harrison Terrace specializes in the care and treatment of those facing Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-related dementia. Our memory care program, Auguste’s Cottage, is named after Auguste D. of Frankfurt, Germany, who is the first person recognized as displaying the symptoms of what we now know as Alzheimer’s disease. Her diagnosis began the world’s recognition, understanding and treatment of memory loss.

We are conveniently located on the eastside of Indianapolis, just minutes from downtown. We are also close to a full service hospital offering emergency healthcare with easy access to I-70 and I-465. We focus on making our residents feel comfortable and secure in a home-like environment, rather than an institutional setting. Excellent healthcare is key, but quality of life is our primary focus. We provide a home that is warm, inviting, safe and secure. The décor encourages residents to reminisce, and plants and memory boxes adorn the halls. Pets visit frequently, and residents can stroll the secured courtyard to enjoy the outdoors when weather permits.

Our staff is dedicated to giving our residents the dignity, respect and love they deserve. Someone is always nearby to lend a warm touch and healing hand to those in our care. We encourage the use of hugs and physical touch to communicate feelings of security and belonging. We extend that companionship to family members and partner with them to learn all we can about each resident. With the guidance and personal insight of family, we can individualize the care program to further enhance the life of each resident.

The Auguste’s Cottage program is designed to follow the ebb and flow of the Alzheimer’s or dementia experience. An individualized daily living program provides the structure and routine that promotes feelings of security and certainty in day-to-day life. We customize the program so each person achieves maximum benefit from the program. We encourage a variety of mental and physical activities to keep our residents’ bodies and minds active and healthy.

Specially trained nursing staff is available 24/7 for all of our residents. Our team works closely with family and personal physicians to ensure continuity and consistency in care. If a resident requires rehabilitation services, they will receive the individualized program they need in the structure and security of a memory care setting. We also provide hospice care.

The Alzheimer’s or dementia experience is different for each individual. We are aware of this and offer different levels and philosophies of care to address the very specific issues being faced.

Our Stage I program is designed for those experiencing the early and middle stages of Alzheimer’s or dementia who require more comprehensive nursing supervision. The care is designed to assist residents with physical and cognitive needs. Group and individual daily activities are more structured and frequent, but independence and productivity are still strongly encouraged.

Our Stage II program is designed exclusively for American Senior Communities. This program serves residents later on in their Alzheimer’s or dementia journey. The program’s focus changes from group and social interaction to more individual, sensory-oriented relations. The goal of the program is to help residents maintain their connections with the outside world.
