Bally Technologies, Inc., incorporated in September 1968, is a diversified, worldwide gaming company that designs, manufactures, operates and distributes slot and video machines to a global gaming industry that includes casino, racino, video lottery, central determination and Class II markets. It also designs, integrates and sells highly specialized computerized monitoring systems that provide casinos with networked accounting and security services for their gaming machines with more than 300,000 game monitoring units installed worldwide at more than 225 locations. Based in Las Vegas, the Company conducts its machine and systems operations, and operates Rainbow Casino, a 35,000-square foot dockside location in Vicksburg, Mississippi, which has approximately 12 table games and 900 gaming devices.
From 2000 to the present, the Company positioned itself for the future by selling non-core assets such as route operations in Nevada and Louisiana and a specialty machine company in Germany while at the same time acquiring key technology assets. Through its acquisitions of Casino Marketplace, ACSC, CMS, Honeyframe, MCC and MindPlay, Alliance Gaming has grown into the No. 1 gaming systems company in the world. Alliance Gaming also bolstered its presence in the burgeoning United Kingdom market with the acquisition of Crown Gaming, which previously served as the Company’s machine distributor in the UK.
On March 3, 2004, Alliance Gaming announced that it had completed the acquisition of privately held Sierra Design Group (SDG), a leading supplier of Class II and Class III gaming devices, systems and technology based in Reno, Nevada. SDG enjoys a strong relationship with Native American casino operators in Washington, Oklahoma, California and Florida and is active in video lottery markets ranging from New York State to Austria.
On March 6, 2006, the Company officially changed its name from Alliance Gaming Corporation to Bally Technologies, Inc. to more appropriately reflect the Company’s focus on technology and innovation and to further build on the powerful Bally brand.
To think it all started with a small wooden pinball machine named the “Ballyhoo.”
When Raymond (Ray) T. Moloney founded Bally Manufacturing Company in Chicago back in 1932, he could not possibly have imagined the company that built the “Bally Baby,” a tiny cast-iron slot machine filled with mechanical gears, springs and levers, would someday evolve into one of the gaming industry’s technological giants. And he could not fathom the company he started becoming the world’s No. 1 gaming systems company with more than 363,000 machines using Bally systems technology in 692 gaming locations worldwide. Or that research and development spending at Bally would reach tens of millions of dollars per year.
With a nod to the company’s long and illustrious legacy of innovation, the shareholders of Alliance Gaming Corp., the parent company of Bally Gaming, Inc., voted on March 6, 2006 to formally change the name of the corporate entity to Bally Technologies, Inc., discontinue the use of Bally Gaming and Systems as an Alliance subsidiary and present a singular name and a united message. Bally Technologies is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol BYI.
