The Ōnin Group is a Birmingham-based, privately held group
of companies focused on people. Our core business is staffing, where we are
among the top two percent of domestic staffing companies in sales volume and
rank as one of the SIA’s fastest growing staffing firms year after year. Our
staffing brands include Onin Staffing, Excelsior Staffing, A3 Solutions, Focus
IT and Onin Professional Search.  Our
other ventures include Momentum Capital Funding, Momentum Equipment and Supply
and Onin Timber.

Founded in Dallas, Texas in 1994 by Managing Partner Keith
Phillips in borrowed office space, armed with only folding furniture, a phone
and a desire to provide for his young family; ours is a Cinderella story.
Through the 90s the business grew under the name InStaff Personnel as Keith
brought in other partners including The Onin Group’s Managing Partner Hugh
Thomas. As InStaff grew from 1 to 35 offices in the 1990’s, Hugh drove growth
in Alabama and Mississippi and Keith focused on Texas and Arizona. The relationship
between Hugh and Keith flourished as Keith’s Texas partners began to move in
other directions. In 1999 Keith sold his share of InStaff Texas and held on to
8 offices with Hugh in the South. 

As the now Alabama based company rounded the corner into the
new millennium, we were running around $8 million in gross revenue. Between
2001 and 2007, we experienced exponential growth as we hit $70 million in sales
in 2007. While many other staffing services faltered through the great
recession, we maintained profitability and positioned ourselves for a rally in

rallied over the last few years, enjoying another run of impressive yet
responsible growth. We are currently tracking for over $300 million in annual
sales and are proud to say we are debt free. We have built our business
organically, by empowering our staff and developing strong long-term
client relationships.

Although our growth to this point has been largely
organic, we did make a very successful acquisition of Mulberry Personnel
in North Carolina in 2007. More recently, in 2011 we purchased Reliable
Staffing on the Gulf Coast and at the end of 2014 acquired Dallas-based IT
staffing company A3 Solutions. Our lean, localized command structure made
it very easy for these companies to fold into our organization. Because of
tight credit market and our strong cash position, we believe that acquisitions
will play a significant role in our future growth and expanded service

Our Momentum brands allow us to put our capital to work
supporting expanded business relationships. In 2013 we launched Momentum
Capital Funding which helps to overcome cash-flow challenges faced by many
fledgling companies, particularly in the oil field and transportation
industries. Momentum Equipment and Supply was opened in 2015 and leases, rents
and finances heavy and light equipment primarily in the oil and gas sector.

customer-focused solutions and innovations which will carry us for decades to

The Ōnin Group endeavors to stand out in the staffing industry. It is our belief that in order to stand out we must invest in and when possible inspire our workforce. While our competitors are cutting benefits, we are adding them.

  • Vacation Pay – It takes our full-time teammates less than a year to earn a week of (unbilled) paid vacation.
  • Holiday Pay – Our teammates are eligible for paid holidays after 1200 hours.
  • Medical Benefits – We pride ourselves on providing the best benefits to our teammates, and we are excited about our new major medical benefit offerings.  Starting in 2015, The Ōnin Group will be offering three (3) medical plan options.  These plans are designed and subsidized by Onin to provide a full range of different options which meet the ACA individual mandate and provide excellent medical options to our teammatess at an affordable price.  Our PPACA plan, which most closely resembles a “Gold” plan on the exchange, is less than $28 a week!
  • Endeavōr Scholarship – This year we have set aside $10,000 in educational scholarship money for our long-term teammates and their families.
  • The Pledge – "The Pledge" is a 5-point promise made to our teammates, which, in summary, states that our staff will interact with them with a heart of service. "The Pledge" is hung conspicuously in each office and is an operational compass for our office staff.

Treating people right is just the right thing to do. We give back to our teammates over 10% of gross profit in the form of vacation pay, holiday pay, medical benefits, unbilled training, bonuses and wellness services.
