Overview
The Medical Center of South Arkansas

Medical Center of South Arkansas, accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, is a general acute-care hospital licensed by the Arkansas Department of Health. The 166-bed facility’s inpatient services include obstetrics and newborn care (with neonatal intensive care), medical care surgical care, pediatric care, intensive care, intermediate care, recuperative care, physical medicine and rehabilitation.

The Med Center has recently expanded with its new Heart and Vascular Institute. The Cardiovascular Services Center, located on the campus of the Medical Center of South Arkansas, is a regional leader in cardiovascular care, offering one of the largest and most comprehensive programs, from cardiac to interventional to surgical care. Our physicians and advanced treatment programs keep our patients closer to home by providing the right heart care, right here.

A Women’s Center is also located on campus and provides healthcare to women in our community and surrounding areas. It also boasts one of the only Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the state, for even the tiniest and most critical patients.

Outpatient services include one-day surgery, speech therapy, 65 physical and occupational therapies, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, wound care, a gastroenterology laboratory, radiation therapy and senior health center. Other support services include home health care and retail pharmacy.

With more than $40 million in facility and equipment improvements since 1996, this modern facility provides state-of-the-art technologies, including open MRI, PET imaging, interventional radiology and mammography with CAD over-read capabilities. The Med Center has more than 100 primary care and specialty physicians on staff, providing a wide range of medical and surgical specialties.

The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) South Arkansas is operated under an affiliation agreement between the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the Medical Center of South Arkansas. AHEC staffs family practice and VA clinics through its Family Practice Residency Program, offers continuing medical education and nursing education, and provides a M*A*S*H (Medical Application of Science for Health) program to high school students each summer.

The South Arkansas Center on Aging – a venture of the Medical Center of South Arkansas, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, AHEC South Arkansas and the City of El Dorado – opened in September 2001. It provides a focused plan of care that incorporates health, education and wellness into the lifestyle of those 65 years of age or older.

El Dorado offers six full-care nursing home facilities (for a total of 682 beds). The community also offers a 64-unit assisted living center and one 16-unit independent senior living center.

SHARE Foundation was created in February of 1996 primarily as an operating foundation and is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity.

The mission of SHARE Foundation is to identify, develop and foster programs and services that further the health and well being of the people of our community and surrounding areas.
