Over the past decade, the hospital has made major investments in the latest technology to diagnose and treat serious illnesses, as well as in new facilities to meet the growing needs of our patients.

The University of Kansas Hospital is home to nationally recognized centers of expertise in cancer, cardiology, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy and other neurological disorders, stroke, kidney disease, critical care, burn care, orthopedics, and organ transplantations.

Allied Health professionals at The University of Kansas Hospital are important members of our multidisciplinary health care team. They include:

BioMed Services

Throughout the hospital, members of this department support health care professionals and patients. They inspect, repair and maintain our medical instruments to the highest standards to insure quality and safety.

Clinical Nutrition

Our dietitians work in allnursing units, and 80 percent of them have master's degrees and/or specialty certifications.

Laboratory Services

Our full-service Laboratory operates 24 hours a day, and we perform millions of procedures annually. To enhance patient care, we use the most advanced technology and techniques available to provide accurate, timely results.

Pharmacy

As integral members of the hospital’s multidisciplinary team, the Pharmacy staff continually improves its practices to keep the hospital at the forefront of medication care.

Radiology

Board-certified diagnostic radiologists, interventional radiologists, and nuclear medicine physicians are dedicated to providing high-quality patient care.

Rehabilitation Services

We provide a broad range of services that includes prevention, preservation and restoration of mobility, fitness, activities of daily living, communication, cognition and swallowing. Our disciplines include Occupational and Physical Therapy, Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Therapeutic Recreation and Speech-Language Pathology.

Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory therapists work closely with physicians specializing in pulmonary and critical care medicine to treat patients with complex and challenging conditions. As part of our multidisciplinary team, respiratory therapists use their patient evaluation and assessment skills and have access to state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.

Sleep Disorders

Our highly trained, experienced technicians conduct overnight sleep studies, or polysomnography, to help diagnose the more than 80 recognized sleep-related disorders.

Leadership Roles


Throughout The University of Kansas Hospital, you'll find nurses in leadership roles, including our chief operating officer and our vice president of Patient Care Services. They, along with nursing directors, managers and unit coordinators, make up the Management Council, which helps set the tone and direction for the Department of Nursing.


Improving the quality and safety of patient care is our top priority. Nurses take a leadership role in the dozens of initiatives underway across the hospital. Our results are compared to external databases and national benchmarking sources.


Teachers, Mentors and Resources

Employee Benefits

A Comprehensive Benefit Package


No health care provider in the region offers employees more than The University of Kansas Hospital. In addition to highly competitive compensation, we provide a strong and comprehensive benefits package. It includes medical insurance, short- and long-term disability, and a retirement plan with many investment options.


Eligibility


Insurance benefits go into effect the first of the month following your first day of employment. Coverage is available for an employee’s legal spouse and for dependent children up to the end of the month in which they reach 24 years of age.


Health Insurance


Three plans are currently available: BlueCross BlueShield Blue Care HMO, BlueCross BlueShield Preferred Care Blue PPO Standard Option, and BlueCross BlueShield Preferred Care Blue PPO Premier Option. Employees may choose to have their premiums deducted on a pre-tax basis. Co-pays are waived if the employee receives care at The University of Kansas Hospital or any of its satellite offices.


Dental Insurance


Employees may choose one of two Delta Dental plan options and have their premiums deducted on a pre-tax basis.


Vision Insurance


Employees may choose the Vision Service Plan and have their premiums deducted on a pre-tax basis.


Life Insurance


Employees receive coverage equal to 150% of their annual salaries. The University of Kansas Hospital pays this premium. Eligibility begins upon employment.


Paid Time Off (PTO)


Employees receive one account of paid time off to use for vacations, personal days and sick days. PTO hours accrue each pay period and carry over from year to year.


PTO Buy Back


Eligible employees have the opportunity to sell back up to 40 hours of PTO twice each year.


Holidays


Each year, employees receive eight paid holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after, and Christmas Day.


Other Paid Leaves of Absence


This includes funeral leave, military leave, jury duty and voting leave.


Tuition Reimbursement


Employees may be reimbursed for up to $3,000 per calendar year for approved college classes taken for credit toward a degree offered by an accredited institution. You must meet specific grade requirements and be benefit-eligible. For employees working less than full time, reimbursement is pro-rated based on the percentage of scheduled work time.


Certification Reimbursement


Employees may receive $500 for initial national certification and $300 per year thereafter to maintain certification. This applies to regular employees who work at least half of a full-time equivalent position. The certification cannot be a requirement of the staff member’s current position. Reimbursement must relate to an attainable position within the organization.
