Job Description

Job Summary:

The Family Birth Center Clinical Nurse Coach functions as an expert clinical leader / mentor, educator, consultant and/ot researcher in  providing nursing care and support for the OB department, especially on the late shifts.  The proportion of time spent in each function may vary, but the support needed is primarily for transferring the expert knowledge to inexperienced nurses on the late shift.  Supports a professional practice philosophy within a shared governance system.

Essential Duties:

Expert Clinician

  1. Models excellence in nursing practice through use of advanced concepts and skills in the areas of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of perceived, actual, or potential health problems.
  2. Recognizes deviations from normal nad works collaboratively with medical, nursing, and interdisciplinary team members to promote safe developmental and age-specific care to patients. 
  3. Provides clinical support to improve patient outcomes encompassing patient satisfaction, functional and clinical status, and cost effectiveness.
  4. Evaluates care processes and outcomes through the care continuum and designs/implements strategies to support individuals, family units, and/or poplation-specific needs.
  5. Evaluates standards of patient care and professional practice with special attentio to quality, value, cost effectiveness, comfort, safety, and cultural diversity.
  6. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by ready appropriate books, journals, nursing literature and research.  Attends related seminars/conferences.  Attends unit meetings, education sessions, and completes competencies as designated.  Keeps current with all standards of practice/care guidelines, policies, and procedures.  Assumes personal responsibility for professional development, practice, and education.

 

Job Requirements

Education:
  • BSN required from an accredited college/university.
  • MSN required from an approved college/university or academic plan to complete within 18 months of beginning position.
  • APRN preferred.
Experience:
  • Nursing education experience which demonstrates progressive experience in the planning, development, and evaluation of adult education programs preferred.
  • Nursing leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of previous experience in all aspects of OB nursing to include labor, delivery, and mother/baby care.
  • Experience in the care of high risk patients is preferred.
License/Certification:
  • REQUIRED: Current licensure to practice in the State of Nebraska as a Registered Nurse and appropriate certifications required.
  • Individual is responsible to maintain a current NE nursing license.
  • PREFERRED: APRN
  • BLS 
  • ACLS
  • NRP
