Maintenance Mechanic

Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic is expected to perform inspections of the hospital building systems and equipment. The mechanic should be able to repair hospital equipment, systems, and building components, perform minor plumbing and electrical repairs as well as minor renovation and new construction services. The Maintenance Mechanic should have knowledge of the operation of the hospital systems such as, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, medical gases and elevators. They should be able to repair hospital beds, carts and other wheeled equipment such as stretchers and wheel chairs, and to order replacement parts as needed. A Maintenance Mechanic may be required to work one evening and one day shift for a two week period on a rotating schedule and carry a house beeper to answer hospital repair calls. The Maintenance Mechanic should have some knowledge of reading blue prints and drawings of the hospital buildings and system. When assigned to projects, they will follow the Project Coordinator’s directions focusing on safety, quality and productivity. The Maintenance Mechanic will be participating in snow removal activities as required. The maintenance Mechanic will provide assistance to Electricians and HVAC Mechanics concerning repair and/or replacement of specialized equipment and system components and will provide assistance to the Painter, concerning sanding, spackling and painting. They may be required to pick up materials from suppliers in order to complete a work order. The Maintenance Mechanic will have knowledge of and adherence to written departmental policies and procedures. 

Job Requirements

Candidates must have a minimum 3 years experience working in a maintenance capacity. Must be able to read, write and speak English and have a valid NJ Drivers License.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Perform Maintenance and repairs as scheduled or as assigned, follows direction, documents work, etc.Willing to work on off-shifts as needed in order to meet department or customer needs.

Hospital experience preferred.
