SmartSource is seeking a Lead Data Center Support Technician for a contract based out of Newtown Square, PA.

Pay Rate: $35/hr

Role: SmartSource is seeking a LEAD Data Center Support Technician to travel heavily for up to 1 year based in Newtown Square PA. Person must be in place by 11/2. We need a person who are willing to live out of a suitcase, work 40-50 hours per week and be on the road 5-6 days per week. This is extreme travel!!
• Oversight of all technician activities in a client data center
• Ensure client data center standards are followed by all Insight and subcontractor technicians
• Ensure adherence with client Change Management process
• Ensure warranty process is followed.
• Create, confirm and/or complete service orders.
• Determine assignments to work centers or individuals for scheduling, based on data supplied.
• Coordinate service with 3rd party partners, when applicable.
• Navigate internal/external reference support materials.
• Assist with all aspects of technical support,
• Instruct end users in the appropriate use of equipment, software, and/or reference materials.
• Other duties as assigned.

Must have experience working with server hardware and cabling in an enterprise-level data center environment.
The data center technician is responsible for providing on demand support of our clients data center infrastructure. This will involve in the following functions:
Rack and stack of all server types.

• Installation and/or removal of mounting rails and/or mounting brackets inside hardware racks.
• Installation and/or removal of cable management attachments.
• Installation and/or removal of Ethernet, fiber, power and any other valid cables and label them with client assigned numbers on each end near the termination points.
• Perform systematic data removal on devices being refreshed or decommissioned per client standard procedures using client provided disk wiping tools.
• Removal of devices and mounting equipment from racks and package for shipment.
• Perform various hardware modifications and replacements, including but not limited to, NIC cards, RAM memory, hard disk drives, cooling fans.
• Package defective parts and provide to client per standard practice.
• Performing server configurations.
• Performing firmware, drivers and software upgrades
• Assist with on-site troubleshooting on devices that are down or not accessible by the client.
• Perform quality hardware checks for all equipment installation, including but not limited to:
• Check that cable labels are correct and plugged into assigned network ports on predetermined network switch.
• Check cable runs are neat and secure.
• Check that device is in correct location (unit, rack, row)
• Check to ensure all power cords are secure and clipped into place.
• Complete all checklists upon completion of work request.
• Ensure client data center standards are followed.
• Expert cabling techniques. Able to cable very dense server cabinets neatly and cleanly with or without cable management and makes use of best cabling practices.
• Ensure all necessary operational processes and procedures are carried out with a high level of attention to detail, expediency and on-time delivery.
• Assist in the creation and maintenance of network and datacenter diagrams and detailed site documentation.
• Perform physical inventory and audits of client assets.
• Perform good receipt process of all arriving equipment.
• Ensure proper storage of equipment as necessary.
• Travel on an as-needed basis both domestically and internationally to accomplish work.

• Must pass a drug and criminal background check before starting
• MUST have reliable transportation and valid DL
• MUST be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
• Must have excellent communication and customer services skills.
• Required qualifications 4+ years
• Lead background IS A MUST
• Enterprise-level data networking experience
• Experience working with servers, ideally HP and Dell
• LAN / WAN cabling installation experience
• Knowledge of peripherals and nodes
• Experience running and troubleshooting of the network cabling
• Experience with shipping and receiving of Data Center equipment
• Previous management or Lead experience
• Ability to working alone or in a team environment.
• Experience working with customers and higher level executives
• Experience in documenting and escalating issues
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
• Intense focus on detail and accuracy of work.
• Technical certifications are a plus
